The Sojus program has been started with the first flight of Sojus 1 in 1967 and was planned for the next years to become analog to the US Apollo project the manned Moon landing project of the USSR.

Sojus project will be until today the most successfull spaceship program of Russia and has developed with the Progress spaceships 6 different series which have been successful used.

(Sojus, Sojus-T, Sojus-TM, Sojus TMA, Sojus TMA-xM and Progress.)

The first flight of Sojus 1 with Komarow in 1967 was a disaster with the death of the pilot during entering the atmosphere.

Sojus 11 was as well a disaster with the death of the complete crew, but today is the modern Sojusspaceship a very safe vehicle to reach ISS from Earth in around 6 hours.

The Sojus spaceship was frequently improved over the last more than 45 years.

The space mail started with the Sojus 4 and Sojus 5 missions when Schatalow (Sojus 4)  got the first mail handed over by the Sojus 5 crew when they moved over to Sojus 4 in 1969.

In the russian Sojusprogram  was as well included the Apollo-Sojus Test Project with the mission Sojus 19.

The Sojus program didnot reached the status of a Moonproject due to missing of a reliable and safe russian rocket because the dedicated Moon rocket N-1 from the  USSR failed 4 times totally between 21.02.1969 and 23.11.1972.(N1 had 30 smaller engines which have to have worked simultaneously together and what was not possible to realize)
