Jules Verne was born 28 february 1828 in Nantes (France) and died 24 march 1905 in Amiens (France).

He became very famous as a french writer for his romans with technical and scientific background where he has written already technical visions which has not realized at that time but became true in the following decades and centuries after his publications.

Two romans from him are for this field of manned space exploration very important :

" From the Earth to the Moon (Von der Erde zum Mond) "  (1865) and

" Journey around the Moon (Reise um den Mond) " (1870).

In this romans he has discribed already that the three astronauts Impey Barbicane, Kapitän Nicholl and Michel Ardan launched in Tampa Florida, near the Cape Canaveral from today, (USA) and that they used Oxygen (generated by heating of Potassium Chlorate, KClO4) for travelling with their projectil (rocket) .

The flight from Apollo 8 in 1968 to the Moon was nearly forseen by Jules Verne in his romans and quasi realized in the same way as the discription in the romans by Jules Verne.

The name of the projectile (rocket) was Columbiade, very similar to the Space Shuttle Columbia.

He discribed as well already very detailed the landscap of the Moon in his romans.

He was one of the founders of the new  and modern so called science fiction (SF, Sci Fi) literature.

Before his death , he pointed out that the mankind really will reach one time the Moon.

The post office of Monaco issued on 7 of June 1955 for the 50 th year of death of Jules Verne a special set of 10 stamps and one stamp related to his two romans  From the Earth to the Moon and Journey around the Moon.

That was for the first time , that a post office honored the work of Jules Verne.
